Kids in the Kitchen – It’s International Cook with Your Kids Day! #LookWhatWeMade #BensBeginners

Kids in the kitchen is near and dear to me. In fact, I talked about it and about International Cook with Your Kids Day just a few days ago. The memories I made helping my mom in the kitchen are the kind that last a lifetime. They’re the kind of memories that stick with me no matter what I do. When I smell cookies, I think of being in the kitchen with my mom. When I sit down to have certain meals, I think of being in the kitchen with my mom. So many foods remind me of being in the kitchen, and that’s what I’m trying to do with my children. That’s why I frequently have my kids in the kitchen with me.

I told you before that International Cook with Your Kids Day was coming. Well, it’s finally here! Today, October 15, 2016, is THE day to help emphasize how fun and important it is to get kids in the kitchen. This is the first ever day promoting having children help parents in the kitchen, and I couldn’t be happier about it. It’s sponsored by Uncle Ben’s® and it coincides with Ben’s Beginners™ Cooking Contest. Both serve to promote kids in the kitchen for more family memories and the kitchen skills they’ll need for better eating habits and food choices down the road.

Kids in the Kitchen with the Help of Uncle Ben’s®

In addition to their first ever International Cook with Your Kids Day, Uncle Ben’s® is going further to help get kids in the kitchen with their Uncle Ben’s® Ben’s Beginners™ Digital Hub. The Digital Hub features recipes and cooking tips to help get parents and kids started cooking together in the kitchen. It also features a photo gallery of families cooking together to get both parents and kids inspired to get in the kitchen and get cooking.

Using the Ben’s Beginners™ Digital Hub, parents and children can not only work together to make delicious recipes from the site, they can also use the lessons found there. Each lesson is a combination of interactive learning activities and recipe that use the cooking skills taught in the activities. Families earn badges for completing the lessons, which makes the entire experience even more fun. I love this because the combination of easy to make recipes like Black Bean and Rice Open-Faced Tacos; Chicken, Broccoli & Rice Casserole; Meatballs & Rice; Cheesy Rainbow Rice with Ground Beef; and Cranberry Rice Stuffed Pork Chops and the activities that go with them teach kitchen skills like stirring, chopping, pouring, peeling, and measuring. All of those skill serve to reinforce other important life skills like reading and math!

Get Your Kids in the Kitchen Today!

Today is International Cook with Your Kids day, so it’s the perfect time to start a new tradition of letting your kids help you cook. Head over to the Ben’s Beginners™ Digital Hub and make today the first day of your ongoing family tradition of kids in the kitchen.
