Kura Smoothie Powders Review + Cuisinart Blender Giveaway!! #StartYourSmoothie

*My blog contributor, Ivette, received a Cuisinart and KURA samples for review. All her opinions are her own and not swayed by outside sources.*

One of the challenges about being a diabetic is finding good sources of protein. You can only eat so much jerky, eggs and beans, you know?

That’s why I was so very excited to be given the opportunity to try KURA Smoothie Powder! It’s unlike anything you’ve seen in stores…each serving has 14 grams of pure New Zealand dairy protein, vitamins and minerals.Kura powders

What’s so great about pure New Zealand dairy protein? Other than the fact that New Zealand dairy has long been considered the gold standard worldwide, they are also one of the few countries where GMO seeds are illegal. KURA is made from the highest quality, pure, grass-fed, antibiotic-free dairy protein from New Zealand so you are guaranteed to get nothing but the good stuff and feel good about sharing it with your family. Now, KURA has been able to share the New Zealand diary protein with us in the United States in three flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla and Berry.

First things first, I’m not a huge chocolate fan. Weird, I know. But I really appreciate smoothie powders in flavors that I can build on, like vanilla and berry. Vanilla is so versatile, who needs chocolate?! JKura powders

So my first try I made a smoothie with what I had at home:

  • 1 cup 2% organic milk
  • small banana
  • flaxseed

I added everything with a package of the KURA vanilla smoothie powder I received to try. I blended it for about 30 seconds until everything was mixed and liquefied.

The taste was delicious! There wasn’t that strong powdered protein flavor you get with some protein drinks. It was smooth and had a great body to it. Not thick like a shake, but filling. I added 5 drops of the citrus oil because I wanted to recreate the taste of the Orange Julius drinks I used to get at the mall when I was a kid.

One of the things I really appreciate about the KURA smoothie powders is that there is no added sugar. The only sugar that’s in the smoothie is the one that naturally occurs in milk. So if you want to reduce the amount of sugar just adjust the liquid that you use. Almond milk, coconut milk, chia seed water, etc. will all yield a different sugar content and taste. Experimentation is the key!Kura powders

Despite the fact that I used 2% organic milk and a banana, my blood sugar did not spike! I tested before my smoothie and 2 hours after, with only a 35 point difference. This was right on target with where I want and need to be!

The one thing I changed in the second smoothie was to grind the flax seed first. In my first smoothie, I left the flax seed whole and mixed it. While the blender did a good job of cutting it, there were still some “bites” of flax seed at the end. The flaxseed powder helps make a more smooth texture.

My second smoothie mixture included:

  • ½ cup 2% organic milk
  • ½ cup water
  • small banana
  • ¼ avocado
  • powdered flaxseed
  • 1 package of Vanilla smoothie mix

The texture of my second smoothie was much better. I loved the taste (you’d be amazed what avocado does for a smoothie) and had a great texture with the powdered flaxseed (I put some seeds in my coffee grinder I have for spices and added to the mix). I got my kids to try it in a dark cup (because it had a green color) and they both liked it and finished their serving. They asked for more but I ran out of milk.

I drink a lot of smoothies for the convenience so I can quickly have something for breakfast. Most people love smoothies but you normally only have a choice between a non-nutritious sugary smoothie or a protein supplement filled with ingredients that you might not recognize and a distinct vitamin and chalky taste. I believe KURA smoothie powder is the best of both worlds and makes it easy to get your family out the door on busy mornings with something that is highly nutritious and delicious.

What makes KURA smoothie powder so healthy?

  • 14 grams of KURA’s pure, bioavailable protein
  • 100% RDA of Vitamin D, C, B6, B12 and six other vitamins and minerals
  • 26 essential vitamins and minerals
  • 5 grams of fiber (keeps you full longer and our digestive system happy)
  • 4 billion CFU Active Probiotics
  • Prebiotics
  • GMO free
  • Gluten-free
  • No added sugar (other than the naturally occurring lactose in the milk you use)
  • No preservatives
  • No artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors

These stats come straight from KURA who truly cares about what we all put on our bodies and want only the best for us and their families.

Thank you so much to KURA for the amazing opportunity to try the smoothie powder! I’m a new customer and have already purchased more vanilla. You can find out more about KURA at www.kuranutrition.com. I’m always on the lookout for new smoothie recipes so please share your favorite one below!unnamed
