Back in April, I decided to make a change that would have huge impacts on me mentally and physically. I just came back from an amazing Disney cruise, stepped on the scale and realized I was almost 150 pounds. At 5 feet, 1 inches, this is moderately overweight for someone like me. I knew I needed to make a HUGE change but I was not quite sure how to do it.
That is when my friend Jodi called me and told me all about the 21 day fix and Beachbody. I was slightly nervous about trying this program because I thought the container system would confuse me, but I was VERY WRONG! This is by far the best “diet” I have ever been on. I say “diet” because in my eyes, it is actually not a true diet, but rather a way of life. A way that I have incorporated in my life, now going on 8 months. Again, I will say over and over, this new way of eating/exercising changed my life.
If you are not familiar with 21 day fix, it is a system where it allows you to eat just about everything you want but in moderation. It is a 21 day plan that includes containers that are color coded. Each container is for a specific food group that you can eat each day. For example, the red container is equivalent to one serving of protein and the the purple container is equivalent to one serving of fruit. Once you order the 21 day fix, it comes with all the containers along with the Beachbody workout system invented by Autumn Calabrese.
It was quite simple to figure out what containers I needed to eat each day by simply inputting my weight and height. It gave me the full “diet” plan with all the containers I have to eat each day to lose weight. Once you do 21 days, you can continue on with another cycle till you reach your goal. If you lose all your weight and want to start mantainance mode, it is quite easy to do with the instructions they give. You simply up your containers based on what the book tells you.
For example for myself at my previous 147 pounds, I was allowed 4 red containers=to 4 proteins, 1 blue=healthy fat, 2 oils or peanut butter TBS, 1 orange=homemade dressing or nuts, 3 greens=vegetables, 3 purples=fruit, and 2 yellow=2 healthy carbs.
This is general idea of my 21 day fix meal plan:
AM- Shakeology with 1 TBLS peanut butter, 1/2 cup watermelon (1 red, 1 oil, 1/2 purple)
Snack- 1 low carb tortilla wrap with baby carrots (1 yellow, 1 green)
Lunch- 2 cups salad, 5 slices of low sodium turkey, 1/2 avocado, 1 small orange (2 greens, 1 red, 1/2 blue, 1 purple)
Snack- Cottage Cheese with 1/2 banana (1 red, 1/2 purple)
Dinner- Salmon, salad with 1/2 avocado, balsamic vinegarette, 1/2 sweet potato (1 red, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 1/2 blue)
Snack- Peanut Butter Bar (recipe that comes with the 21 day fix)
I told you that it is A LOT of food!! I am full every single day! Along with this system, I do the BeachBody tapes which are each 30 minutes and each tape focuses on a different area of the body. It is AMAZING! And everyone can do 30 minutes of exercise!
Now, there is a brand new system called Hammer and Chisel by Beachbody. Beachbody sent me this new system about a month ago and I have to say I am a HUGE fan. I will warn you though that if you are brand new to exercise, I would start with the Beachbody videos and then start Hammer and Chisel after you get somewhat into your exercise routine. The system is not easy but it is fabulous!
