Lulu Jr. Let’s Your Child Make Their Own Book!

I love to read, and I’ve tried to instill that love into all of my kids. So far, so good. They love to read! To make it even more fun, I recently got a Lulu Jr. book making kit to let the kids be the authors of their very own books! They had a blast, and so did I!

Lulu Jr. is a company specializing in kits that let your kids write their very own books. These aren’t dinky little things, either. They’re full size books, and they come in hardcover! That’s pretty impressive. This is more than fun, this is an important way to encourage reading in your kids. I mean, really. This is more than just a personalized book with a fill in the blank for your child’s name. Your  kids actually write and illustrate the book! Fun!

These book making kits are a ton of fun, and they come in four variations, each with their own unique twist.

  • Illustory: Illustory is the original Lulu Jr. book making kit. It includes ready-to-use book pages, markers, instructions for creating your hardcover book and a postage-paid envelope to ship it all back for printing! There’s also an “About the Author” feature showcasing your child and his or her creation.
  • Illustory Jr.: This is a smaller, softcover version of Illustory and it contains everything you’d find in the Illustory kit.
  • My Comic Book: My Comic Book is the book making kit designed for comic book fans. It includes ready-to-use book pages, pencil and artist eraser, markers, instructions for creating the comic book, and a postage-paid envelope for return shipping. There’s even a “Comics in Action!” guide created by FableVision to help get your child started on their action packed comic book.
  • My Awesome Book: This Lulu Jr. book making kit has it all – a premium size 8 1/2″ x 11″ hardcover book size, ready-use book pages, markers,  instructions for creating the book, the Quick Start Guide written by New Your Times bestselling children’s author and illustrator, Peter H. Reynolds, and pre-paid return envelope.

Our Experience with Lulu Jr.unnamed 11 Lulu Jr. Lets Your Child Make Their Own Book!

I got My Awesome Book for Hayley. At first, she was a little hesitant. I think the “specialness” of the set was a little daunting for her, so we sat down and read through the Quick Start Guide a few times, and she found her footing. After that, it was smooth sailing. She had an absolute blast, and so did I. It was a joy to watch her think up a story and draw out the pictures all on her own! She loves books, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so excited over anything book related before. That makes me a happy mommy!

In my opinion, every parent should get one of the four book making kits from Lulu Jr. It’s a great way to have some fun that isn’t electronic related, and it helps reinforce a love of reading, which is so important. Hayley and I thoroughly enjoyed our Lulu Jr. book making experience, and I think your kids will, too.

I would have loved this for my son a few years back! He had a few classes where they made homemade books, I would have gladly published it!
