Keep Skin Safe with Neutrogena and #MimicMommy

Keep skin safe this summer for both you and your kids with Neutrogena’s #MimicMommy campaign. This campaign is devoted to helping moms teach their children how to keep their skin safe and healthy by always protecting it from the sun’s harmful rays. This summer, help keep skin safe by showing your kids how it’s done.

*This is a sponsored post with Neutrogena. All my opinions are my own and not swayed by outside sources.*

My husband, my children, and I all have olive skin, so we don’t burn as easily as other people do, however it’s still a possibility. And it’s not a chance I’m willing to take. Did you know that even 1 bad sunburn can drastically increase your child’s risk of developing skin cancer later in life? And when I say drastic, I mean double. 1 sunburn doubles your child’s risk of developing skin cancer. That’s horrifying when you consider how much fun it is to get out and play in the sun as a family.

That statistic is why it’s so important to help teach our kids to keep skin safe every time we go outside. My daughter always says she wants to be just like me, so I’m using that to my advantage! The #MimicMommy campaign is all about teaching through doing. By making sure we always protect our own skin, we show our children how important it is to keep skin safe for a lifetime.

And it’s terribly important. I have a friend who lost his great grandfather to melanoma. Growing up in the south, in the 30s and 40s, his grandfather was always working in the sun. Later in life, he developed a cancerous lesion on his arm. The doctors thought they got it all, but somehow it managed to spread. After 2 years, 3 lost digits, and a lot of suffering, his great grandfather passed away. That’s what can happen from sun damage.DSC_0205

Keep Skin Safe with #MimicMommy

That incredibly sad story I just related is why I’m so committed to the #MimicMommy initiative. So is another mommy – Kristen Bell. She’s partnered with Neutrogena to bring the #MimicMommy concept to life in a great video. Kristen Bell is involved, so of course, it’s funny, but it’s also thought provoking. It offers a new take on how to get kids to understand how important it is to keep skin safe.

In addition to using this video to help keep skin safe. Neutrogena will donate $1 for every #MimicMommy video share – up to 15,000 shares – to the Children’s Melanoma Prevention Foundation (CMPF). Neutrogena is putting their money where their mouth is with this campaign, and I love it. In this day and age, there’s no reason to not keep skin safe. We know how to do it, and we know what happens when we don’t.

So join Neutrogena in the #MimicMommy campaign to teach kids how to keep skin safe now and for a lifetime. It’s one of the easiest ways to help improve our health. Remember less burns = less skin cancer risk.
