Protecting Skin with Neutrogena #MimicMommy

*Sponsored post with Neutrogena. All my opinions are my own and not swayed by outside sources.*

Protecting skin from the sun is one of the most important things we can teach our children to do. Of course we all know that sunburns hurt, but did you know that even one sunburn during childhood can drastically raise the chance of your child developing skin cancer later in life? Just one. Suddenly sunburns become much more serious than a little childhood pain and discomfort. I had no idea about that statistic, but thankfully, I was a mom who was obsessed with keeping the kids burn-free just for the pain factor. Now that I know how important protecting skin from sunburns is to a child’s long term health, I’m even more committed to protecting them, and so is Neutrogena.sunscreen

Protecting Skin with Neutrogena and Their #MimicMommy Movement

Neutrogena is a leader in skin care, and they know how important it is to take care of it. In fact, they’ve been the go-to sunscreen brand for my family since day one. Now, they’re rallying moms to help raise the first generation of sun-safe kids. Sunburns are no joke, you guys! In fact, Neutrogena conducted an online survey through Harris Poll, and they produced some statistics that are quite startling. While 91% of Americans believe sunscreen is important for protecting a child’s health, the actual understanding of why and the real importance of protection are far to meager. Take a look.

  • 22% of parents with children under the age of 18 didn’t know that just one or two painful sunburns during childhood could double a person’s odds of getting skin cancer later in life.
  • Only 18% of parents with children under the age of 18 said they applied sunscreen to themselves on a daily basis.
  • Only 34% of parents with children under the age of 18 said that their children always noticed them applying sunscreen to themselves.
  • 83% of parents with children under the age of 18 said that their children didn’t wear sunscreen on a daily basis.sunscreen

This statistic are startling. Fun in the sun is great, but it can be dangerous without proper protection. That’s why Neutrogena has teamed up with the Holderness Family – you know those guys – to make it fun for kids to learn how to protect their skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Check out their fun video below to see how they’re helping teach their kids about the importance of protecting skin.  Neutrogena is also making a $10,000 donation to the Children’s Melanoma Prevention Foundation to support this cause!!sunscreen
