Sunscreen Bands Review and Giveaway!

*This is a sponsored giveaway. All my opinions are my own and not swayed by outside sources.*

I am going to tell you some staggering and very frightful facts concerning skin cancer. This is not to scare you but to tell you that you need to make sure you are aware, when you go out in the sun. unnamed-2

-Risk of melanoma DOUBLES with 5 Sunburns*

-1 in 5 Americans will have skin cancer within their lifetime*

-By 2015, 1 in 50 Americans will develop menaloma within their lifetime*

-In the US, someone dies every hour from melanoma*

-skin cancer is 90% prventable (90% attributed to enviornmental factors)**

-skin cancer attributes to 3% of pediatric oncologies**

Sources:

*From American Academy of Dermatology (http://www.aad.org/media-resources/stats-and-facts/conditions/skin-cancer)

**From Skin Cancer Foundation (http://www.skincancer.org/skin-cancer-information/skin-cancer-facts)

Currently in the US, 1 in 5 children will develop skin cancer within their lifetime. But fortunately, 90% of skin cancer is preventable. We have the power to drastically reduce that statistic. That’s where products like Sunscreen Bands come in. Sunscreen Bands are produced by JADS International, a family-owned Maryland business.

Sunscreen Bands use a patented color-changing technology, which monitors both UVA and UVB exposure, to remind you when it’s time to reapply sunscreen, or when you’ve had enough fun in the sun for one day!Screen Shot 2014-06-30 at 10.43.42 AM

So how do Sunscreen Bands help you stay sun-safe all year round?unnamed-4

It’s simple really.

First, you activate the band by exposing it to sunlight for about 10 seconds, until it reaches a deep purple. Then, sunscreen is applied to your skin AND TO THE BAND. This ensures for the most accurate monitoring according to your sunscreen’s SPF level.

Slowly but surely, the band color will fade, which means that it’s time to put on some more sunscreen to stay sun-safe.

But if the band reaches a crème color, it means you’ve reached your maximum recommended daily UV exposure for the day, and it’s time to cover up or seek shade.

And the great thing about Sunscreen Bands is that they’re completely waterproof, which means even if you take a dive in the pool, or go swimming in the ocean, you can be sure that Sunscreen Bands are still working to keep you sun-safe!

Sunscreen Bands are now available nationwide at major retailers such as CVS, Walmart, Toys R Us/Babies R Us, and Amazon.com.

They are endorsed by Parent Tested Parent Approved, the National Parenting Center and The Personal Care Products Counsel.

But more importantly, Sunscreen Bands aren’t just another product on the market.

BAND HAND COLOR CHANGEband color change hand

They are part of a mission to:

-Educate about skin cancer detection and prevention

-Advocate for sun-safe practices

-Raise money and awareness for melanoma and skin cancer research

That’s why Sunscreen Bands has developed strategic partnerships such as The Shade Foundation, which educates elementary students about sun safety, and the Melanoma Research Alliance, where 100% of funds go directly towards research of melanoma. Sunscreen Bands also sponsors free skin cancer screenings, races and other fundraisers to spread the word!

Sunscreen Bands are a simple, yet incredibly effective way to ensure that everyone can stay sun smart while having fun in the sun all year round!

A little more about UV rays:

Broad Spectrum Sunscreens-protect against UVA & UVB rays. Majority of previous sunscreens only protected against UVB, which causes burns, and not UVA, which penetrates deeper and causes skin aging.

UVB rays are absorbed by the top layer of the skin (called the Dermis) and causes sunburn.

UVA rays penetrate deeper and can cause skin aging and wrinkles.

UVA= Aging (wrinkles)

UVB= Burn

My favorite part it keeps you in the know about the sun. For an example in August we are going into the MO State Fair for 5 long days. We will be in the sun for a few hours at time. Being pale skin the sun can be dangerous to me. This will let me know when to reapply and when to get out of the sun. dorothyreynolds88 @ Yahoo . com

  18. Nicole Mecham says

    July 5, 2014 at 5:39 pm

I love that it warns you to reapply sunscreen BEFORE you get burnt. Right now, the only reminder our family has to reapply sunscreen is when one of us is looking red – which is always far too late. With my pale skin, I am constantly having to get moles removed. Recently my dermatologist found abnormal cells and had to do a much more extensive process to get all of the dangerous cells out of my body. Melanoma is a very scary thing, and Sunscreen Bands are great little fighters against it. Not to mention that the kids would find it pretty cool to see the colors changing and would actually be more willing to reapply their sunscreen as well. It’s definitely a win win!

  19. Melissa M says

    July 5, 2014 at 6:43 pm

I love that it tells you when to get out of the sun. I think a lot of people, myself included, think as long as you aren’t burned, you can still stay outside. Problem is, sometimes you can’t always see the burn right away, so it’s important to limit your time.

My daughter was worried about enrolling our granddaughter at a preschool she really liked but the kids are outdoors a lot. Her concern was what would happen if the teachers forgot to put sunscreen on her frequently (she has a severe sun allergy and had to go to the emergency room once before this was figured out, but is fine with sunscreen). Now, our granddaughter can monitor herself (smart girl) and tell the teachers when it’s time to get another application of sunscreen! Problem solved!
