This past Tuesday I had the chance to attend the opening of The Outsiders Tour at the Providence Performing Arts Center. As an avid fan of the book and movie, this show followed closely both of these. This show was a 10/10!!! And more!! Not only was the acting fabulous and the beautiful music they added to make this a show, the choreography was a chef’s kiss. In the second half, the battle scene is probably one of the best dance numbers that I have ever seen in any Broadway shows. Please do yourself a favor and run to see this show. Show information is below!
The Outsiders will play at the Providence Performing Arts Center now through April 19th as part of the Taco and The White Family Foundation Broadway series.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1967, Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade and their Greaser family of “outsiders” battle with their affluent rivals, the Socs. The Outsiders navigates the complexities of self-discovery as the Greasers dream about who they want to become in a world that may never accept them. With a dynamic score, The Outsiders is a story of friendship, family, belonging..and the realization that there is still “lots of good in this world.”
The winner of four 2024 Tony Awards including Best Musical, The Outsiders features a book by Tony Award nominee Adam Rapp with Tony Award winner Justin Levine, music and lyrics by Tony Award nominees Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine, musical supervision, orchestration and arrangements by Justin Levine, choreography by Tony Award nominees Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman and is directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor.
The Outsiders opened on Broadway on April 11, 2024 to rave reviews and continues to play to sold out houses at the Jacobs Theatre. The New York Post proclaims The Outsiders as “The Best New Musical Of The Season.” It is electrifying, astonishing, and endlessly effective. The Outsiders has been made with so much love and sincerity. The Outsiders has a heart of gold and the power to inspire an entire generation.
