Film Synopsis
From 20th Century Studios, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works – a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe. The musician and songwriter is portrayed with great heart and sound by Jeremy Allen White, who authentically plays guitar and sings in this artful performance that has garnered critical acclaim as “captivating” (Joey Magidson, Awards Radar) and “the real deal” (Pete Hammond, Deadline), a role for which White was recently honored with a Golden Globes nomination for “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.”
Equal parts intimate and inspiring, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere explores the personal history and creative drive behind Bruce Springsteen’s work, offering longtime fans deeper insight while inviting viewers into a universal story of ambition and self-discovery. Centered on a young musician wrestling with the moments when “the quiet gets a little loud,” the film deepens appreciation for the sacrifice and emotional truth that shaped Springsteen’s work resonating with anyone drawn to honest, personal storytelling.

My Thoughts:
I am a huge Springsteen fan. Bruce is by far my favorite musician out there. While I would have loved some happier moments in this movie, it truly depicted a time of his life that allowed him to write one of the most popular albums ever to grace this world. It depicts an era in life filled with pain and despair, which led to the iconic lyrics of his albums. If you listen to the words of Born in the USA, it tells about returning from Vietnam in a country that does not want him or any of the Vets around. It is filled with despair even while delivering some of the most powerful lyrics out there.
I thought choosing the 1982 era was a wise choice on Cooper’s part, rather than delving into his whole life. It is a part of his life that most people do not know about and it shows us just how many obstacles Springsteen overcame to become the greatest musicican of all time. It did not come easy.
Jeremy Allen White was truly amazing in capturing the despair and essence of Springsteen in this time. In this movie, he is not painted as the hero but rather as a guy who is dealing with real life issues and uses his music to heal. The supporting cast was also great including Stephen Graham who breaks your heart as the father, Gabby Hoffman as his mother and does a wonderful job, and Odessa Young as Faye and his first girlfriend.
I give Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere 4/5 stars. Be sure to watch digitally and on DVD today!
