Insomnia- Do you have these sleep problems?

I used to be a sound sleeper. I never woke up for anything. Then the whole kid thing happened. I found myself tossing and turning to get myself to sleep even after my kids began to sleep through the night. Can you relate? Did you have the same problems with insomnia once your kids were born? What did you do?

My quest to end my insomnia started when Hayley was 6 months and finally sleeping twelve hours at night. How I longed for just a solid 6 hours- I would even take 5! I started with the warm milk remedy and when that was providing me with no help, I began to investigate over the counter medicines such as Melatonin and Valerian root. Those medicines did provide me with some relief for awhile but I was apprehensive about continuing to take any type of medicine.

Around the same time that my insomnia was striking full force, I was noticing that I was waking up with back pains. You know the type of pain-the dull, aching pain, that kept me from enjoying activities that I normally loved to do. I am also a dentist so back pain is one issue that I can not deal with.

I started thinking about my back pain and insomnia when I realized that I have been using the same uncomfortable, hard mattress for awhile. When we did our move to our new house, we took the same mattress we were using for around ten years. We knew we needed to get rid of it but always put it on the back burner.  My husband suggested we start researching new mattresses and so we began our search. While we looked at many brands, we have always heard great things about reliable Serta mattresses. We knew we needed to spend money one way or the other, so we figured we would go with a trusted brand.

After some research and testing products, we bought our first Serta mattress. Serta mattresses is a huge brand name that features a vast variety of mattresses and is home to the worlds  worlds finest mattresses. If you order your  Serta mattress from ShopNBC, they will custom make it to satisfy all your sleeping needs.

I have to say that the Serta mattress we purchased, was one of the most comfortable mattresses, I have ever slept on. It was neither too hard or too soft. I felt as if I was melting away to dreamland sleeping on the mattress.   The end result is I am able to finally sleep well and have been having less problems with my back since I started sleeping on my new mattress. It is truly amazing what a good mattress can do for you!

WE need a new mattress – and a king bed for "middle of the night kid visits". I am researching beds now and then onto mattresses – so this is helpful thanks!

I always find Mattresses purchases difficult, very confusing. Kind of smoke and mirrors, so it helps to hear what you have to say about a trusted brand.

I started having sleep problems when I was pregnant with my first. My sleeplessness was more anxiety than a bad mattress though. I spent years taking two Tylenol PMs every night. My doctors weren't too happy about it, but it was the only thing that helped me get any amount of sleep. Once I started getting more regular exercise I started needing the Tylenol less and less. I still have trouble sleeping sometimes, but thankfully it's not as bad as it used to be. Glad that a new mattress is what you needed, that's much better than taking drugs every night.

I've always have sleep issues but never a Serta. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to check them out for my next mattress! Thanks for the info 🙂

You bring up an interesting point (I know that sounds spammy but it isn't). I have never been a great sleeper since we bought this mattress. We bought it almost exactly 7 years ago and it's got some great divots in it. Maybe it's time we sprung for a new one that's a bit of a better model. I have no trouble falling asleep but my sleep is NOT restful.

I have been dying for a new mattress for 6 years. I have no idea how I lasted my whole pregnancy on the bed we have. I can only hope that a new mattress will at least help our backs out and my sleep. It would help if I didn't have to listen to "Mom,momma, mom,ma,ma" in the monitor too.

I wish my mattress was my sleep problem… but it's the 15 month old that doesn't want me to sleep through the night right now…

When Hubby and I bought our mattress I wanted this big fluffy pillow top. Hubby's side got all sunken in so we turned it around and now I have to sleep in the hole. We've tried putting it back, but he has back problems so I have to continue to sleep in the hole until we can afford another.

I never sleep very long. Usually a couple hours really hard, but then I toss and turn the rest of the time. Our mattress really needs to be replaced 🙁

I sounds like a great mattress. I will consider a Simmons the next time we are in the market for one. We just bought a new mattress about five years ago, and it is still doing fine. Thank you so much for this great review. It makes me feel much more positive towards Simmon's Mattresses.

I've been looking into getting a new mattress as well, not until we move later this year though. We are trying to decide between Serta and Sleep Number so it's great to hear first hand from someone using a Serta. I'm glad the mattress has worked out for you so well. I have suffered from insomnia as well so comfort is always a priority to me at bedtime. Good to know about the custom mattress option too. Thanks for sharing!

I can't complain too much when it comes to sleep but I do think a lot of it has to do with having a great mattress. Before getting our new one I would have a lot of hip pain especially when I was pregnant. Having a new mattress really relieved that issue!

I've always had a problem falling asleep, even before kids. But I tend to sleep fine as long as no one starts crying in the middle of the night. Just a side note, melatonin is completely natural and there are several studies suggesting it not only helps sleep, but can also prevent late age illnesses.

I actually used to be a pretty bad insomniac and took Tylenol PM or Melatonin every single night. That all changed when I was pregnant and I had to stop. I was so tired through out my pregnancy that I slept so much easier without the sleep aids. Now I sleep okay even though I'm still waking up 4-5 times a night!
