Life with Hayley and Zane- 2.5 years in!

I am not sure how it happened but I am now the mom of an official 5 and 2.5 year old. Crazy how time goes so fast!  If you blink for a second, you might miss it! I like updating my blog every few months with my life with two series. It is fun to see how things change with raising two kids in such a short period of time.

When I last updated, I told you all how life with 2 was very hard. I have to say although parenting two kids still has its challenges, it has gotten much easier in the last month or so. We have gotten to the point where Zane and Hayley actually play together. I never in a million years thought they would actually play, without tearing each other hair out, but we are definitely improving in that department. I actually can sit down and read a book, even if it is for 10 minutes at a time. Heck…This is 10 more minutes than I had 6 months ago.1385558_10151891243699356_771426094_n

While Hayley is really such a delightful 5 year old (I am so lucky), Zane is full force into his terrible 2′s! Thank g-d the boy is cute, because I am put through the wringer with him each and every day. He LOVES temper tantrums and ever more so, he loves time out. I kid you not when I tell you that when he does something wrong, he knows it, and will proceed to sit in our time out chair. Not so sure time out works with him, lol! The temper tantrums are very challenging but I know they are short lived. Hayley had severe temper tantrums at that age too, and now she barely has one. Maybe if she breaks something or something is taken away from her, but otherwise she is completely even keeled! I just keep telling myself…We will get past the terrible 2′s…We will get past the terrible 2′s.

However, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Things are definitely getting easier each day and the bond forming between Hayley and Zane is so remarkable. Now I have to think to myself…Do I want a third kid? That is the question of the day:)

My kids don’t know what it’s like not to have siblings being so close in age, so they’ve always played together. Sometimes it means twice (or triple) the trouble. I’m glad they’re getting along.

I hear ya, on all fronts! Thanks for this honest post. So cute. As a mom of two kids – a boy and a girl- let me tell you, BOYS DO GET EASIER with age- thank GOD!

My kids are also 2.5 yrs apart but I have two girls. They are now 9 and 6.5…. the time goes by so fast. When they were little I thought for sure I’d pull all my hair out (some days I still do, the problems get bigger as they do) but I would do anything to go back to that 2.5 yr old that really is so fun to watch learn and experience things for the first time.

But see how your daughter grew out of it, your son will do. And the fact that your daughter grew out of it means you did a good job mom!

My younger brother and I are 2.5 years apart, and my parents said this is when we finally started to play together as well. Hopefully your daughter can help keep him in line with his terrible-two’s! Here’s to many fun years ahead of playing together!

Wonderful post! The playing together does make life much easier and more fun. Another? If anyone asks me about adding to their family, I’ve always said something like this: Project ahead 20 years. This “new” baby will be 18 or 19 and your older kids will be 22 and 24. The baby time is challenging, but the rewards of more siblings are pretty wonderful, too!

It’s such a personal, intimate decision. You’ll know!
Thanks for posting and the photos are wonderful!
